Free Credit Reports Under Law
Under The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), consumers have a right to a free credit report on themselves only in certain circumstances. The most common circumstance is when you have been denied for credit in the last 60 days based on information in your credit report. If you have been denied credit in your state, you can obtain a free credit report within 60 days after denial of credit.
You are entitled to a free credit report if you have been denied credit in any of the 50 Untied States within 60 days after denial of any credit application. Generally, a free credit report should be provided directly by the credit reporting agency who provided the report to the lender who denied you credit application.
Free Credit Reports are available to residents of these six States under State Law: Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont.
Consult the State law for specific information and all requirements based on your geographic location. For the free credit report you will need to contact each of the 3 national credit bureaus directly to obtain a free credit report. |
